GTRC wins EASA funding
23-03-2009

EASA Award

As part of an EU consortium including Rolls Royce and DLR, the GTRC has been awarded funding from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to analyse particulate formation from aero engines.

This project involved a number of scientific and academic groups from across Europe making simultaneous measurements of volatile and elemental carbon smoke from a gas turbine combustor linked to the hot end simulator rig.

Groups included:

Cardiff University

Manchester University

Reading University

QinetiQ

DLR

ONERA

Rolls Royce

Artium

TSI

This work is important in the aviation sector since it will provide critical data as to the impact of aircraft emissions on air quality especially around airports.
