GTRC Completes NH3 Experimental Campaign

This week GTRC completed a series of detailed experiments, investigating the use of NH3 for power when combined with Steelworks gases.

Fuel-air equivalence ratios were optimised for overall emissions reduction, before air staging was parametrically investigated on the overall flame response. Secondary air was introduced at multiple locations within the quartz flame-holder to evaluate the impact on flame stability and global emissions production.

NH3 was blended with Coke Oven Gas (COG) and steam to simulate potential applications within integrated steelworks. The work was performed using the GTRC High-Pressure Generic Swirl Burner, as a model GT combustor.

The campaign was undertaken as part of the FLEXnCONFU project, and the results will be published soon.
