GTRC deliveres Virtual Risk and Hazard Demonstration

GTRC staff recently delivered a virtual risk and hazard lecture with demonstrations to undergraduate, masters (https://lnkd.in/dhiyWZC) and doctoral students (https://lnkd.in/du7uDkZ). The topics covered included the ATEX Directives 95&137, along with DSEAR and EPS regulations and an explanation of how to conduct an area classification exercise (https://lnkd.in/esgzkxG). The implications on area classification from fuel switching to hydrogen were discussed.

Demonstrations of dust, fuel mist and gaseous explosions were given using the GTRC’s bespoke explosions rigs. Students were exposed to ongoing research projects in this field, including a long-term HSE/Joint Industry Project on mist explosions.  The video shown here is a slow-motion video of an unconfined rich propane explosion which highlights the consequences of not controlling explosion risk on site.
