GTRC Director Collects Prestigious US Award

Professor Nicholas Syred, Director of the GTRC, has been awarded the George Westinghouse Gold Medal for 2011 by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
Professor Syred was selected to receive the 2011 George Westinghouse Gold Medal for ?innovative research that has contributed to the understanding and application of swirl flows for cleaner combustion with fossil fuels, and for the development of heat exchangers, fluidic devices, hot gas cleaning and cyclones?.?? Throughout his career, Professor Syred has produced more than 300 papers and articles and has received several awards including the Combustion Institutes Sugden Award for the best Contribution to Combustion Research in 1997, the first Nato Science Partnership Prize in 2002 and a further Nato award in 2005 to organise a joint workshop in the Ukraine.? Past and ongoing work focuses on combustion instabilities, flashback and blow off and the use of alternative fuels
