GTRC Directors (Syred & Griffiths) win Americal Institute of Aeronautics and Arospace (AIAA) 'Best Paper' Award'

AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Aerospace) have awarded their 'Best Terrestial Energy Systems Paper' award to GTRC Directors Professors Nick Syred, & Tony Griffiths, with students Augustin Medina Valera and Mohammed Abdulsada.

This area is now becoming more topical than ever due to the potential instabilities incurred by running powerplant such as gas turbines on alternative fuels (e.g. hydrogen-rich) and /or under fuel-lean conditions.

technical paper entitled, ?Studies of Large Coherent Structures and their Effects on Swirl Combustion? was presented at the 48th AIAA Aerospace Sciences meeting. in Orlando, January 2010 and develops the 'Swirl Combustion/Instability' theme that the Combustion group led by Professor Syred has developed at Cardiff over the past 30 years.
